Check Engine Lights

Can a dead or weak battery cause the check engine light?

Yes, a weak or dying battery and charging system problems can trigger the check engine light, because low or unstable voltage affects the sensors and modules that the engine computer relies on. When voltage drops too low, sensors can send false readings, and the computer may store codes that are really caused by the electrical issue rather than a true engine fault. A failing alternator that overcharges or undercharges can do the same. This is why a proper diagnosis matters, so you do not replace good parts when the real problem is the battery or alternator. At Motoro Cars in Miami, our ASE-certified, AAA-approved technicians use computerized diagnostics along with battery and charging system testing to find the true cause. Call Wynwood at (786) 634-2002 or Doral at (786) 633-3220 to get your electrical system and check engine light checked together.
