Check Engine Lights

How do I read check engine light codes myself?

To read check engine light codes yourself, plug an OBD2 scanner into the diagnostic port located under the dashboard near the steering column, turn the ignition to the on position, and let the scanner display the stored codes. Codes start with a letter and four numbers, such as P0420, where P means powertrain. While reading the code is easy, interpreting it correctly is the hard part, because one code can have several possible causes and a generic reader will not tell you which component actually failed. Replacing parts based only on the code often wastes money. At Motoro Cars in Miami, our ASE-certified technicians use professional computerized diagnostics that go beyond a basic code to test the real components and find the true cause. We are AAA-approved in Wynwood and Doral. Call (786) 634-2002 or (786) 633-3220 for an accurate diagnosis.
