Check Engine Lights

What does an oxygen sensor do and how do I know it is bad?

An oxygen sensor measures the amount of oxygen in your exhaust and reports it to the engine computer, which uses that data to adjust the air-fuel mixture for efficient, clean combustion. When an oxygen sensor goes bad, you may notice a check engine light, poor fuel economy, rough idling, hesitation, or a failed emissions reading. Common trouble codes include P0130 through P0167. A failing sensor forces the engine to run too rich or too lean, which over time can damage the catalytic converter, so it should not be ignored. A computerized diagnostic reads live sensor data to confirm which oxygen sensor has failed. At Motoro Cars in Miami, our ASE-certified, AAA-approved technicians test sensor performance accurately before replacing anything. Call Wynwood at (786) 634-2002 or Doral at (786) 633-3220 to diagnose a suspected oxygen sensor and restore your fuel economy.
