What is the difference between R134a and R1234yf refrigerant?

R134a is the older automotive refrigerant used in most cars built before 2015, while R1234yf is the newer, more environmentally friendly refrigerant required in most newer vehicles. The two are not interchangeable, and mixing them can damage your AC system and create a safety hazard. R1234yf has a much lower global warming impact, which is why automakers switched to it, but it costs significantly more per pound and needs specialized equipment to service. Using the wrong refrigerant or the wrong equipment can ruin a compressor. At Motoro Cars, our ASE-certified technicians identify exactly which refrigerant your vehicle uses and have the proper machines for both R134a and R1234yf. That means an accurate, safe recharge with no shortcuts. With AAA-approved shops in Wynwood and Doral, we service every type of system correctly. Call (786) 634-2002 or visit motorocars.com.
