Why does my car squeak or squeal when I start it?

A squeak or squeal when you start your car most often comes from a worn, loose, or glazed serpentine belt, or from a failing belt tensioner or pulley. The serpentine belt drives your alternator, power steering, water pump, and AC compressor, so a worn belt that squeals is warning you it could soon slip or break. The noise is often loudest at startup or in damp morning conditions, which Miami's humidity makes common. If the belt fails completely, you can lose charging, power steering, and cooling all at once, leaving you stranded. Caught early, a belt and tensioner replacement is an inexpensive, routine fix. A quick inspection tells you whether you have months of life left or need it now. Motoro Cars inspects your belt, tensioner, and pulleys and replaces them before they leave you stranded. Book an inspection at motorocars.com or call Wynwood at (786) 634-2002 or Doral at (786) 633-3220.
