Real Diagnostics, Not Just Code Reads
There is a big difference between pulling a fault code and actually diagnosing a vehicle. Any $30 device from an auto parts store can retrieve a code number. What it cannot do is tell you whether that code is the result of a failing sensor, a wiring short, a software glitch, or an underlying mechanical problem that will return the moment you clear it.
At Motoro Cars, diagnostics means using professional-grade bi-directional scan tools to communicate with every control module on the vehicle, reviewing live sensor data, performing component activation tests, and applying 35 years of hands-on experience to understand what the vehicle is actually telling us. We find the root cause so the repair sticks.
What Our Diagnostic Service Covers
- Full OBD-II fault code scan - all stored, pending, and permanent codes across every accessible module
- Check engine light diagnosis - identifying the exact cause behind the code, not just retrieving it
- Live data stream analysis - reviewing real-time sensor readings to catch intermittent faults and out-of-range values
- ABS and traction control faults - wheel speed sensors, ABS module communication errors, hydraulic unit issues
- Airbag and SRS warnings - reading crash data, clockspring faults, seat belt pretensioner codes, and module communication failures
- Transmission fault codes - solenoid faults, range sensor errors, torque converter codes, and adaptive shift data
- Electrical and sensor diagnosis - tracing wiring faults, short circuits, open circuits, and failed sensors to the component level
- EVAP and emissions system faults - purge valve, charcoal canister, and leak detection pump diagnosis
- TPMS and body control faults - tire pressure module resets, door module faults, lighting system errors
- Pre-purchase inspection scan - checking a used vehicle for hidden fault codes before you buy

Why a Proper Diagnostic Saves You Money
The most expensive mistake Miami drivers make is approving a repair based on a code number alone. An oxygen sensor code, for example, can be triggered by a failing sensor, an exhaust leak, a fuel trim issue, a vacuum leak, or a failing catalytic converter. Replacing the sensor without understanding why it failed means the light comes back on within days and you are back at square one.
Our approach is to spend the time upfront to understand the full picture. That means the repair is done right the first time, and you are not paying twice for the same problem.
All Vehicle Systems, All Makes and Models
Modern vehicles can have 20 or more individual control modules, each managing a different system. A check engine light is only one of many warning indicators that can appear on your dashboard. We diagnose faults across all of them, including:
- Engine Control Module (ECM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
- Transmission Control Module (TCM)
- Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) and airbag modules
- Body Control Module (BCM) and dashboard electronics
- Fuel system and emissions controls including EVAP
- Hybrid and battery management systems on applicable vehicles
We work on domestic vehicles, Japanese imports, Korean makes, and European brands including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Volkswagen. If it has an OBD-II port and a warning light, we can diagnose it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a car diagnostic cost, and is the fee applied to the repair?
Our diagnostic fee covers a full OBD-II scan plus hands-on inspection to find the root cause, not just retrieve a code. When you approve and proceed with the repair at Motoro Cars, the diagnostic fee is often applied toward the repair cost. We provide a written estimate before any work begins. What does a check engine light actually mean?
The check engine light means the vehicle's onboard computer has stored a fault code in one or more systems. It can range from a loose gas cap or failing oxygen sensor to misfires, catalytic converter deterioration, or sensor malfunctions. A solid light means get it checked soon. A flashing check engine light means a serious active fault, typically a cylinder misfire, that can damage the catalytic converter within minutes of continued driving. Do not keep driving with a flashing light.
Do you use dealer-level scan tools?
Yes. We use professional-grade bi-directional scan tools that go well beyond generic OBD-II readers. These tools communicate with all control modules on the vehicle, including the engine control module, transmission module, ABS module, airbag module, and body control module. We can read live data streams, perform component activation tests, and reset learned adaptations the same way a dealership would, for a fraction of the cost.
Can you diagnose electrical, ABS, and airbag faults, not just the engine?
Yes. Modern vehicles have 10 to 30 separate control modules, and warning lights can appear in any system. We diagnose check engine light codes, ABS and traction control faults, airbag and SRS warnings, transmission fault codes, TPMS issues, and electrical wiring or sensor problems across all vehicle systems. We do not just clear codes and send you on your way.
