Why is there a clicking sound when I turn on my car AC?

A clicking sound when you turn on your car AC is most often the compressor clutch engaging, which is normal as a single click, but rapid or repeated clicking usually means low refrigerant or a failing clutch. When refrigerant is low, the pressure switch shuts the compressor off to protect it, then it tries to re-engage, creating a repeated rapid-clicking pattern. Clicking can also come from a failing blend door actuator behind the dash, which is unrelated to refrigerant but worth checking. A single soft click when the AC kicks on is generally nothing to worry about. At Motoro Cars, our ASE-certified technicians can quickly determine whether the clicking is normal operation, a low charge, or an actuator fault. Catching a low-charge clicking early often means a simple leak repair instead of a damaged compressor. Serving Miami from Wynwood and Doral, call (786) 634-2002 or book at motorocars.com.
