What is the difference between drilled and slotted rotors?

Drilled and slotted rotors are both performance-oriented designs that help brakes manage heat and gases. Drilled rotors have holes bored through the face that dissipate heat quickly and shed water, which can help in wet conditions, but the holes can crack under extreme stress, so they suit street and light performance driving. Slotted rotors have grooves cut into the surface that sweep away gas, dust, and debris while giving the pads a fresh bite, making them popular for towing, heavy braking, and track use, though they wear pads a bit faster. Some rotors combine both features. For most daily Miami drivers, quality solid or vented rotors are plenty, and these upgrades matter more for spirited or heavy-duty driving. At Motoro Cars, our ASE-certified techs help you choose the right rotor during your free brake inspection. Call Wynwood at (786) 634-2002 or Doral at (786) 633-3220.
