Why do my brakes smell like burning?
A burning smell from your brakes usually means they have overheated, often from riding the brakes down a long hill, heavy stop-and-go driving, or a stuck caliper or parking brake that keeps the pads pressed against the rotor. New brake pads can also give off a mild break-in odor for the first few stops, which is normal. But a sharp, persistent burning smell, especially with smoke or reduced stopping power, signals a real problem like a dragging caliper that can damage the brakes and even risk fire if ignored. If you smell burning, pull over safely and let the brakes cool, then have them checked. At Motoro Cars, our free brake inspection finds whether a caliper is sticking or your brakes are overheating.
